World Peace

When elected president, you have many powers and duties. What is the most important duty of the president is just an opinion. Keeping peace with other countries and securing different country friendships is what I feel is most important. We are seen as a super human country to other countries, that doesn't mean we should be acting superior to other countries. We have shown and should continue to show our friendliness to other countries, it's important for not only protecting our world but protecting our own people.

Our safety also relies on other countries choices. If we make enemies with other countries, they could react back violently. It is not hard to outstretch a hand and help another country, on occasions. Not to point where they depend on us, but to a point where they understand that we will help. We've been taught to use the golden rule since kindergarten, why can't we still put it in use as adults?

The United States has a bigger carbon footprint than any other. The United States needs to step up and start saving our world like the rest of the Earth. It is unfair for us to waste as much as we do without making any bigger step than Cash for Clunkers. If the rest of the world has to suffer from our waste and our insufficiency, we should at least reduce it.

How to achieve world peace is a very complicated debate. Some Buddhists believe that we must become first at peace within our minds for the world to become at peace. Traditional Hindus believe that gaining more knowledge and becoming free from all artificial boundaries that keep the countries apart is the way of having peace with all countries. Islamic eschatology says that when Jesus arrives in his second coming, the world will be united under his power. As a result of having so many beliefs of how world peace can be gained, we aren't able to be at peace.

Discrimination keeps the world apart. There are people who dislike, or even hate, certain races, genders, religions, people with disabilities or even people who originated from somewhere that is not accepted. If we cannot allow people to be who they are and express their own personal opinions, I believe we will never be able to gain peace with other countries. This hate has corrupted our chances of gaining this dreamlike goal of peace. Will we ever get to where we want to be with all this hate?

Even as an optimist, I believe this goal is nearly impossible to reach. For the facts that: we cannot decide how to achieve it, we can't ask for people to change their opinions of how to achieve it. This country is full of people who are strongly opinionated, that may not necessarily believe that peace is important for the president to keep with other countries. I hope our newly elected president will take any steps possible to stay at peace with other countries. We don't want to risk any more attacks, and we don't want to risk causing more violence that has already been caused. Even if this is just a dream, I will always believe that world peace should be the number one priority of the president.

P.S. I wrote this paper last minute for Social Studies.

Who Else Would I Be?

“Be yourself” people say, who else would I be? Individuality is an important part of our everyday lives, without it we wouldn't be who we are. From what we wear, what we listen to or what we choose to do with our spare time. If our world was similar to Jonas's community, we wouldn't have the freedom we do to be who we want to be every minute of our lives. Without the individuality we express everyday then we would all be the same.Art is one of the main ways people express their creative selves. Without art, we would have no culture. Our famous artists such as Andy Warhol or even Leonardo Da Vinci wouldn't even be famous. Even the art we like classifies us as different people, we can't like different art and still be the same as each other. A place without art would be a lame place to live.Music is all around us, making us who we are. In stores, in elevators, in cars; music is inescapable because even in our free time we are showing the world that we are our own unique person. Even as I am writing this essay, I'm listening to music. It stimulates our creative senses so in turn we can make artistic works of our own. Many kids claim that without music they would die, that's how important today's society finds music to be.Fashion is a big industry to both adults and children. Our world makes a lot of money from big fashion designers because they make one-of-a-kind pieces. They use all their imagination to make clothing that other people will adore and then become a one-of-a-kind person with that piece of clothing. What we wear everyday is based off of our individual likes and dislikes. Not everybody likes the same type of clothing, so having the ability to choose what you like and what you don't like is important.Everything we do differently than others in our day to day lives is important. Living in an utopia would be a meaningless life without any rare emotions that we can transform into art, music or fashion. The freedom to become a singled out person is what makes the way we live in important. Being unlike everybody else is the best gift a person can have. Everybody being diverse is what is so important about being a unique individual.P.S. I wrote this paper in sixth grade for a creative response to the Giver.

This I Believe

Even as a kid, I have many beliefs about what is key to living your life in a way that is most beneficial. I feel that the most important part of life is to be happy. It’s not something you always can control and you sometimes must fight to be open to joy. I’ve discovered that a giddy disposition is a selective emotion. It often comes at the most unexpected moments- or at least it has for me. I believe that happiness, although difficult to define, is something everybody understands and wants and a majority receives.
I’m a positive person and I firmly believe that happiness comes naturally. As I am usually upbeat, I’ve noticed in my life that at the times I don’t expect happiness to enter into my life, it does. On occasions, I have found myself in a sudden realization of how ecstatic I have been in comparison to the past. Happiness comes while you’re living your life. It may be brought on by the smallest of events or just may happen out of the blue. You can pursue happiness™ but that’s all it will be if you try to, only a pursuit.I feel that you will not fully appreciate this basic human emotion until you first experience unhappiness. You will not be able to notice nor appreciate this gift until you have felt something completely unlike it. It’s difficult to respect the inner joy happiness brings if you do not first understand what a gift this emotion is compared to sadness. I know that some of us haven’t experienced as severe sorrow as others may, but we all have something personal that we view as a distressed time in our lives. I’ve noticed that only does this feeling stay when you understand what an important emotion it is. As soon as you began to appreciate its role though, it may disappear.Happiness is a contagious feeling but it doesn’t last forever. It comes and goes so you should feel the need to make the most of it. Other people can easily be brought to the sunny side of the street by other happy people- even if it sometimes means they are dragged across the street unwillingly. I make an effort to bring this bliss to anybody I interact with. For example, I sit with my closest of friends at lunch. I laugh nonstop even though it causes people to maybe give me strange glances, it seems to make others laugh just as well. Happiness is limitless to who it can inhabit so it’s something we can all share in.These philosophies about happiness have taught me to savor this sensation. When I’m blessed with this present, I try my best to pass it on. I’ve understood what it is like to not be happy, and so now I appreciate the moments that I don’t have to live without it. I have benefitted from letting this cheerfulness come naturally and I will never forget to value what great effect it has to me, my family and my friends.
